The Maastricht Finance Society was founded in 2017 as Sigma Finance by students of the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics, acting as a think tank and knowledge hub for financial services, capital markets and investment banking.
Drawing from mainly two knowledge sources, namely financial literacy and expert insights, the organization has since grown to provide students with expertise beyond university course materials; connecting students with industry experts, communicating industry-relevant knowledge and bridging the gap between theory and practice. Accordingly, the Maastricht Finance Society plays a valuable role for students developing their analytical skills, be it via dealing with complex cases, preparing for interviews or interpreting current trends in financial markets. In contrast to our sister organization Sigma Investments, which runs the student-led investment fund, the Maastricht Finance Society embodies a more holistic approach to finance that also incorporates fintech, venture capital and M&A.
We want to empower every student to attain a holistic financial knowledge base to enable them to get the finance job they always envisioned
We aspire to execute on our mission by promoting financial literacy on campus via our weekly meetings. Additionally, we work to close the gap between theory and practice and enable rich connections by facilitating guest-talks held by industry experts and workshops with leading companies
